On Friday, June 15th, The 80's band heavy metal band The Scorpions were in town and I went out to try to get them.
I expected the show to end at about 10:30pm that evening, considering that it started at 8pm; so I went to the venue to see if the band would sign for their fans afterwards. I had heard good things about them and all indications led me to believe they would. Well...I was wrong. They scooted them right onto their buses and off they went. I jumped in my car and followed the last bus out. They were playing a show in Tucson on Sunday night, so I knew there was a chance they were still staying in town. As soon as I saw which hotel they were heading to, I passed the bus and beat them there.
The lead singer, Klaus Meine, immediately got off the bus surrounded by security and went straight into the hotel. The only band member I saw was Rudolf Schenker, one of the original guitarists of the group; and he was nice enough to sign for the 3 of us there as well as take a photo with me. I got him on both my album, and a drum head. He also gave me a guitar pick from the show. Thanks so much Rudolf!
Since I didn't get Klaus, and I really wanted him on my album; I woke up Saturday morning early and headed back down there. I waited about 3 hours without seeing any activity and all of a sudden I look up and Klaus walks out of the hotel and heads across the street to do some shopping. Knowing that he could only come back a couple of different ways, I put myself in the best position to see him on his way back. Sure enough, about an hour later Klaus comes walking towards me and I ask him to sign. He says "No problem" and comes right over to me. We spoke briefly about the heat in AZ, he signed my album and drum head, then headed back into the hotel. What a nice guy. The day paid off and I got who I went out for. I now have 2 of the original 3 Scorpions band members on my album and drum head for my collection. Check it out :)
