It was going to be another long day in LA today, but hopefully well worth it. The cast for this movie is incredible and I can't wait to see it. I arrived in Westwood at noon or so, where my friends had been holding a spot for me since 8am. I gathered my things from the car, arranged my pictures and prepared my poster for this big event. Around 6:30pm, things started to happen. First to arrive was
Demian Bichir from Weeds. He is also in this movie and I was lucky enough to get him on my 12x18 cast shot, as well as my official Savages movie poster.
Next to arrive was Mary-Louise Parker from Weeds, but unfortunately; I didn't have anything for her and was unable to get her on an index card. :(
While Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise) was still signing, Emile Hirsch arrived. We were able to call him over and he was the nicest guy. I have not had the chance to meet Emile before, but had heard nothing but good things and he did not disappoint. He signed and took pictures for the whole block (see my nice pic below). I was able to get him on my poster, as well as an Alpha Dog and Into The Wild 11x14. Those were both great movies, but my mistake today was I completely forgot to get him on my Killer Joe picture that Matthew McConaughey had just signed the night before. That would have completed that item (now I still need Emile on it). Thanks so much Emile!
Next up was a double feature. Both Salma Hayek, who we did not expect at the premiere; and Benecio Del Toro came over to sign at virtually the same time. I was able to get Salma on my poster, as well as a Desperado 11x14. Then I jumped and was able to get her on a savages 11x14 that she really like (I know this caused she asked me where I got it and how she could get one). Benecio was nice enough to sign my poster, but skipped my Snatch picture. I was not able to get him again, as he stopped signing by the time I finished getting my Salma pics done. Thank you to both Salma and Benecio, as this really made my trip. Both have been two of my favorites for a long time.
Next on the block was Joel David Moore, who I was unaware was in the movie and did not put him on my poster or cast items. He only signed for a couple of minutes and did not sign after the premiere either, unless you chased him down the street.
Now I am a big Taylor Kitsch fan. I was lucky enough to meet him when they did the X-Men Wolverine premiere in Phx a couple years ago and he is a very nice guy. I was a huge fan of Friday Night Lights, and his movies John Carter and Battleship were both good movies in my opinion. I was lucky enough today to get him on my poster, cast shot and 3 individual 11x14's as well. Thanks so much Taylor!
Blake Lively was the last one to sign. She started on the far baracade and was skipping around (sometimes even entire sections). She was very picky in what she was signing ( I heard her bodyguard tell her she didn't have to sign something if she didn't want to), and would only do certain things. I was able to get her on a 11x14 from Green Lantern and add her to one of my cast shots. She skipped my poster all together but signed the two on each side of me. Although I did not get all I wanted, I did get her twice and am very thankful for that (she was tough). Thanks so much Blake!
John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston showed up and waved to the crowd. We called and called for him to come over as John is one of the best signers in the business. This was all to no avail. His publisist did come over and tell us that John would not be signing due to the recent tabloid issues he's been having. I can understand that, as the red carpet can be controlled, but there are paparazzi out in our area that you would have no control over what they say. None the less...John didn't sign going in to the premiere. Now it's a waiting game for the after party and movie exits.
When everyone was leaving the premiere, nobody was really signing. Salma said she couldn't. We didn't see Emile. Benecio ignored us. John was the last one out. He had his security come over and check us out to see that we didn't have a lot of cameras out and he came over and signed for literally 40 seconds maybe. In that time, I got a 12x18 Pulp Fiction done, and he had just started to sign my SNF 11x14 when security grabbed his shoulder and pulled him away. This resulted in a John Travolta straight line down the bottom of my picture. Good story though. :)
Off to the after party.
Well, I've pretty much gotten nothing at the AP except a couple of pictures with people (The girl from Hairspray and the guy from Couple's Retreat who played the Yoga instructor...alright...yeah).
Salma ignored again. Benecio took photos with 5 girls, but no graphs. It's now 1:30am and time for John to come out.
As Mr. Travolta came out of the party (in a garage), we yelled at him to come sign. He had security put everyone (there were about 12 of us) in a straight line as he pulled the car up to us and rolled down the window. One a piece was the rule. Get yours and move. I was second in line and my friend helped me get one also since he was first. We got a Grease album and a Staying Alive album signed. John signed about 6 autographs and rolled up the window. A few of us chased the car, since he got caught at a red light; he was nice enough to roll down and I was able to get another Grease and Urban Cowboy album signed. Thank you so much Mr. Travolta for signing so much for me. :)
Well...not a bad night. I got pretty much everyone I wanted on at least 1 photo or album, and am very happy with how the trip turned out. More to come!
